Realization of the Via Carpatia project is a guarantee of the development of the Carpathian region of Ukraine and infrastructure integration of Ukraine - Volodymyr Omelyan

Active participation in the implementation of the largest infrastructural project of Central and Eastern Europe - Via Carpatia provides a unique opportunity to modernize transport network of the southern and western regions of Ukraine, to realize transit potential and give local communities a new quality of life. Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine stated the above during the “All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum Via Carpatia. Infrastructure projects - the way to associate the Carpathian macro regions».

The high-level Forum Via Carpatia was held within the framework of the International Conference "Circle of Vincentes: The Future of the Carpathians". Mykola Knyazhitsky, the MP of Ukraine, was an initiator of the event. Among the participants were Pavlo Rozenko, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Vyacheslav Negoda, the First Deputy Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, Mikhail Titarchuk, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Witold Słowik, the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Investment and Economic Development of the Republic of Poland, chairmans of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Lviv regional state administrations, Lithuanian and Polish politicians, representatives of international and public organizations.

"Today's conference is a symbolic event. Last year in October, we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Poland on further cooperation under the Via Carpatia project and today we are taking part in the I International Forum of Eastern and Central Europe countries “Via Carpatia”. This means that Ukraine's participation in the implementation of the Carpathian macro-region development project is very important. Together with the development of transport infrastructure, a conceptual vision of a common European future takes is being formed ", - stated Volodymyr Omelyan

Projects for the development of the European transport corridors - Via Carpatia and Gо Highway, participation in the Southern branch of the New Silk Link will allow Ukraine not only to become the largest logistics hub between Europe and Asia, but also will open opportunities for a  sustainable development in the region. According to the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, local authorities should make every effort to use all opportunities for the construction and modernization of roads that are part of the Via Carpatia initiative or adjacent to its network.

"The resources of the Road Fund give local communities a unique chance to become a part of the international transport corridor from the Baltic to the Black Sea and fully reveal the recreational potential of the region, improve and develop sphere of transport and tourist services to the European level. This will give Ukraine a revival of the Carpathians, and for people - a new quality of life, work and social standards", - Volodymyr Omelyan stressed.

Reference: Ukraine participates in the implementation of a large-scale transport corridor project from the Baltic to the Black Sea Via Carpatia, which is important for the successful infrastructure integration with the EU countries. The route will pass through the territory of Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and will have a branch in Ukraine, thus connecting the Carpathian region with the Baltic and the Black Sea. On October 22, 2017 in Przemysl (Poland) Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine and Andrzej Adamczyk, the Minister of infrastructure and construction of the Republic of Poland signed a Memorandum of Understanding on further cooperation within the framework of the Via Carpatia project.
