The train of four capitals starts on September 28 from Kyiv. Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine announced the above during the press conference on the results of the plenary session of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Lithuanian Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, which was held on July 17, 2018, in Lviv.

Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, headed the Ukrainian delegation and Virginijus Sinkevičius, the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania, headed the Lithuanian Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Lithuanian Commission. Marius Janukonis, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine and Ričardas Degutis, the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania were also presented the Lithuanian delegation.

Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure, stressed that the entry into force of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU became an additional impetus for the intensification of Ukrainian-Lithuanian bilateral trade cooperation: «The last year's agenda, which was agreed in Lithuania, gave the result this year. We have the train of four capitals (Riga - Vilnius - Minsk - Kyiv), which starts on September 28 from Kyiv. We will have direct air service between Vilnius and Lviv and a number of other promising projects. The goods turnover between two countries is growing actively and had showed almost 40% of growth at end of 2017 and there is a further increase. Since July this year, Austria has started its chairmanship in the EU, and on their agenda the number one question is modern technology, modern solutions, artificial intelligence. Ukraine will join forces with Poland and Lithuania to create a center for promising technological innovation solutions. We understand that even small investments can give a huge effect. All well-known companies started from small startups and it was five, ten, fifteen years ago».

Virginijus Sinkevičius, the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania noted that cooperation with Ukraine has good prospects: «Our today's meeting is a good signal for business of both countries. The investment climate in Ukraine has positive trends. I think that the progress we are planning to make in transport, connecting our countries with aviation and trains, opens more opportunities for our citizens to come and see a beautiful state Ukraine, and for Ukrainians - Lithuania. Ukraine is the number one priority for Lithuania in terms of European Integration processes, this is one of the main work item, and Lithuania is ready to help Ukraine as much as possible. We positively evaluate reforms that are taking place in Ukraine in the direction of European’s Integration and we hope that the upcoming elections in Ukraine will not stop them. Together with the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine we have found a common language about innovation policy. I think this is a chance for our states, businesses and entrepreneurs to combine opportunities. Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania can become leaders in the transport sector».

During the meeting of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Lithuanian Commission, Volodymyr Omelyan expressed gratitude for the active interest and attention of the Lithuanian side to the reforming process in various sectors of Ukraine and emphasized the importance of Lithuania's experience for the modernization of Ukraine.

The 18th meeting of the Commission is an indicative of the stability and consistency of the relations between Ukraine and Lithuania. It confirms the aspiration to develop and deepen bilateral relations in various spheres. On the result of the meeting, the parties signed a final protocol.
