Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine met with Alain Pilloux, EBRD Vice President

Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine met with Alain Pilloux, EBRD Vice President and Matteo Patrone, the new EBRD Managing Director, Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.

The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine thanked to EBRD for the successful joint work on the implementation of infrastructure projects: “We have a really good portfolio of joint projects. Firstly, this is the Beskydy tunnel, which was built with the joint financing of the EBRD and PJSC “Ukrzaliznytsya”. The tunnel was opened in May 2018 with the participation of the President of Ukraine. It is a really large joint Ukrainian-European project that has intensified our transport communications”.

According to Volodymyr Omelyan, another important project is “Electrification of the railway line Dolynska – Mykolaiv – Kolosivka”, which envisages the electrification of the direction, the modernization of the track and alarm systems and telecommunications at the expense of EBRD and EIB lending under the state guarantee. The relevant Guarantee Agreement, which was signed at the end of 2017, is underway to ratify.

The Minister of Infrastructure also informed Alain Pilloux about the successful implementation of the Road Fund and the rapid development of the aviation industry in Ukraine.

Alain Pilloux, the Vice-President of the EBRD, in turn, noted that the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine is among the most effective ministries in the cooperation with the EBRD. 

He gave a positive assessment of the infrastructure reforms taking place in Ukraine, and assured the Minister in further support from the EBRD: “We will continue to support the Ministry of Infrastructure,  you personally, Mr. Minister, and your team in the  implementation of such important transport and infrastructure changes for Ukraine”
