Ukraine is becoming a modern and innovative European state with a developed infrastructure. Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, stated the above during the XVIII International Economic Forum "Lviv Region - Hub of Opportunities", which took place on November 2, 2018 in Lviv. Representatives of diplomatic and business delegations from more than 100 countries of the world attended the Forum.

"Due to the complex approach to the formation and implementation of the state transport policy, Ukraine is becoming a modern and innovative European state with a developed infrastructure. Our ideology - everything begins from roads; all roads should lead to Ukraine and in Ukraine should be high-quality roads. Over the past three years, 7,000 kilometers of roads have been restored. This is an absolute record for Ukraine”, - the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine stressed.

The head of the Ministry underlined that the implementation of infrastructure projects will create a modern, efficient and dynamically responsive transport system of Ukraine. And there are already the first concrete and tangible results with impressive figures and facts.

“For the first time in the history, this year, Ukrzaliznytsia transported more passengers to the EU countries than to the Russia. 30% of the air market is low-cost. Ukraine is among the top 5 countries in the world in terms of the growth of the electric car market. For the first time, we have the situation when Ukrposhta becomes an engine and market leader, other companies are afraid of it and start competing with it. But we should not to stop at what has been achieved, we should to scale up successful infrastructure projects and practices throughout the country as soon as possible. Markets and cargo transportations are being reoriented in the direction to the European Union and in this context Lviv region is one of the key regions", - Volodymyr Omelyan stressed.

"The new transport corridor GO-Highway, which we are currently building, will connect the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea, Ukraine with the EU, - passes through Lviv. All cargo traffic from our ports will pass through this city and region. Therefore, success of Ukraine as a transit state depends on how logistics hubs, railways and highways will be developed in Lviv region", - the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine said.

In this context, it is especially important to ensure efficient operation and sustainable development of transport systems in the western regions of Ukraine. The head of the Ministry said that the role of the Lviv transport hub would continue to grow. Thus, in particular, the Latvian airline Air Baltic Corporation AS (airBaltic) opens a flight from Lviv to Riga, from April 2, 2019, flying 4 flights a week.

The Minister stressed that in terms of further cultural and economic European integration of Ukraine, the reorientation of passenger and cargo flows, increasing of trade turnover between Ukraine and the EU countries it is important to ensure the accelerated development of transport communication between Ukraine and the EU in general and in the Lviv region in particular.
