We are starting work on a new airport in Dnipropetrovsk region, - Volodymyr Omelyan
We are starting work on a new airport in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, stated the above during the meeting, which was held on January 25, 2018 in the Ministry of Infrastructure. The meeting was attended by Gleb Prygunov, the Chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, Volodymyr Yurchenko, Deputy Chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Administration, Tetyana Rychkova, People's Deputy of Ukraine, Olexander Bilchuk, Head of the State Aviation Service, Mykola Bozhko, Head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Projects, representatives of UkSATSE and others.
Volodymyr Omelyan stressed that the construction of the new airport is an initiative of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko: "The airport with the tentative name "Prydniprovia" is the first major infrastructure project that we start to build from scratch this year. This is the initiative of the President, which we will implement in the next 2-3 years".
According to the Minister, the existing airports in Dnipro and in Zaporizhia require capital repairs of runways and the reconstruction of terminals, which is comparable in costs to the construction of a new airport.
“The airport in the village Solone will be a new modern infrastructure object that will give a new life not only to the Solone, but also to the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions. We are starting construction of the airport, and together with it we are launching the development of the entire adjacent infrastructure. We expect that in 2 years after the start of the operation of the new airport, the passenger traffic will amount to 1.5-2 million passengers. Now, by the end of 2018, the total passenger traffic at the airports of Dnipro and Zaporizhia was a little less than 700 thousand. These are extremely low figures for such a large region and with such a high potential”.
All present at the meeting expressed their full support for the idea of building a new airport, as well as readiness for joint teamwork to achieve a result.
