Neither the Black nor the Azov Sea will be the inland seas of the Russian Federation, - Volodymyr Omelyan
On February 28, 2019, under the chairmanship of Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, a meeting on the results of the 2018 operation of the maritime industry and plans for 2019 was held.
The meeting was also attended by Raivis Veckagans, the head of the SE "Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority", Dmytro Petrenko, the Chairman of the State Maritime and River Transport Service of Ukraine, heads of ports, enterprises and other representatives of the maritime industry.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan emphasized that the maritime industry has the full support of the President of Ukraine: “We have the political support of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko for the successful completion of the maritime reform. There is support for reducing port tariffs and fees, and there is an understanding that it should be done by reducing the share of contributions to the state budget. We are currently preparing a large package of proposals in order to reduce the share of deductions this year, and in the case of the ports of Mariupol and Berdyansk to reduce them to zero. "
The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine stressed that the issue of Azov remains the key. “We will not leave our two ports of Azov in trouble. All resources of the state will assist to them. Together with the European Commission and our American partners, we are developing a financial assistance project in order to improve the infrastructure of both ports and cities as quickly as possible. We continue international pressure on the Russian Federation. We will ensure free shipping through the Kerch Strait. Neither the Black nor the Azov Sea will be the inland seas of the Russian Federation", - said Volodymyr Omelyan.
The head of the Ministry also noted that the maritime industry for the second year has been showing growth and it is important to ensure its further development. “Indicators on container shipments are a record for the last ten years. They indicate that the maritime industry and the economy of Ukraine are developing. The maritime industry every day creates additional added value for Ukraine. 2019 is the election year. Stability is important to the industry. The infrastructure is not built for elections or one person - the infrastructure is built for decades. A lot has been done over the past 5 years. For the next 5 years, the President of Ukraine clearly indicated that infrastructure is among the top 5 state priorities. Already in 2019, the industry can give a significant increase in cargo traffic, there are large plans of USPA on investments. It is very important not to lose the transparency that has been demonstrated in recent years. All tenders should be conducted in the ProZorro system and without abuse", - the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine emphasized.
