The infrastructure of Ukraine is gradually being modernized and integrated into the EU, - Volodymyr Omelyan

On March 28, 2019, in the framework of a working visit to Bucharest (Romania), Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, met with Henrik Hololei, Director-General of European Commission for Mobility and Transport and Vazil Hudak, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank.

During a meeting with Henrik Hololei, Director-General of European Commission for Mobility and Transport the issues of bilateral cooperation in the transport sector, modernization of Ukraine's infrastructure and the implementation of European standards were discussed.

The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan express gratitude for all-round EU support for Ukraine against the ongoing aggression of Russia and assistance in restoring the infrastructure of the Azov region. The Head of the Ministry stressed that the modernization of the Azov Sea infrastructure is a matter of national security and the Ministry, together with European partners, is developing projects to improve road and rail connections with Mariupol and Berdyansk.

“Despite the Russian aggression, the infrastructure of Ukraine is gradually being modernized and integrated into the EU. With the inclusion of Ukraine into the TEN-T MAPS and Indicative TEN-T Action Plan and the accession to the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funding instrument, Ukraine has become an important participant in the pan-European transport and logistics system", - Volodymyr Omelyan said.

The parties also discussed a number of other important issues of bilateral cooperation, including an action plan for 2019-2021 on the implementation of the National Transport Strategy of Ukraine for the period until 2030  “Drive Ukraine 2030”, the signing of the Agreement on a Common Aviation Area between Ukraine and the EU and liberalization of road transportations, in particular, simplifying the procedures for issuing ECMT licenses for international road transport.

During the meeting with the Vice-President of the European Investment Bank Vazil Hudak, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan discussed the implementation of joint projects on modernization and improvement the safety of the road network, electrification of the railway, reconstruction of the airport infrastructure and attraction of investments in the maritime and river industry.

The Vice-President of the European Investment Bank Vazil Hudak congratulated Ukraine on joining the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) funding instrument and gave a positive assessment of the infrastructure reforms in Ukraine.
