Volodymyr Omelyan met with US officials

On June 25, 2019, Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine met with US officials.

From the American side the meeting was attended by: Ian Steff- the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Global Markets of the U.S Department of Commerce, Joseph Uddo – the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Innovation and Market Development (US Department of Energy), Todd Abrajano - Acting - Deputy Director and COO U.S. Trade and Development Agency, Michael A. Lally – the Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs – Eurasia (U.S. Embassy).

From the Ukrainian side the meeting was attended by: Raivis Veckagans – head of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, Irina Koshel - head of the Reform support team and others.

The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine informed the American side about the reforms in the aviation, road and port sectors. According to him, the development of infrastructure on the conditions of public-private partnership is perspective in Ukraine, in particular, implementation of concession projects in Ukrainian ports and airports.

The parties discussed current political situation in Ukraine; special attention was paid to the Azov region.

According to the Ukrainian minister, the escalating Russian aggression raise the issue of the access to Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait.

"We are seriously considering about the resumption of the work of the Mariupol airport. This is not only of socio-economic importance, but also of military importance ", - Volodymyr Omelyan emphasized.

According to Volodymyr Omelyan, in the special focus of the Ministry is the implementation of new technologies on transport, the increase of cybersecurity and implementation of pilot projects - Internet of things and 5G, which should enhance road safety.

Representatives of the American side confirmed the support of Ukraine by the United States and expressed hope that all positive changes that have taken place in Ukraine in the recent years will be continued.

They also assured Volodymyr Omelyan in further support of Ukrainian in the development of Ukraine’s infrastructure.
