Background: Application of Weigh-in-Motion or WiM technology is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of state control over compliance of freight carriers with weight restrictions, which encourages the carriers to observe the restrictions. This will save roads from premature degradation and reduce the likelihood and severity of road accidents involving trucks. A pilot project to install WiM-complexes on approaches to the city of Kyiv is planned for 2018, which will allow testing the technology in real conditions of Ukraine, streamline administrative and institutional processes and disseminate this experience throughout the country. The project has been jointly developed by the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Ukravtodor, Ukrtransbezpeka, and is implemented with the support of the World Bank.
