Volodymyr Omelyan met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Ukraine Mr. Lee Yang-Goo

On May 2, 2019, Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine, Mr. Lee Yang-Goo, who has completed his diplomatic mission in Ukraine.

Volodymyr Omelyan expressed gratitude to Mr. Lee Yang-Goo for his work in Ukraine and the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of transport between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea.

The Minister of Infrastructure noted that due to bilateral efforts, Korean companies have expanded their presence on the Ukrainian market.

“A lot has been done and achieved during your cadence. We are pleased to welcome Korean companies and investors in Ukraine. This year we are preparing the construction of a new airport in the Dnipropetrovsk region. This airport will be the largest on the east of Ukraine. We look forward to consider the proposals from all interested Korean architectural companies. Our goal is to build the airport in a modern style, an art object, which will become not only a successful airfield, but also a business card of the region”, - said Volodymyr Omelyan.

The head of the Ministry also noted on the growth of the inland waterway freight market and invited Korean investors to cooperate in this area: “The inland waterways transport market is growing every year. This could be a good opportunity for Korean investors to enter the Ukrainian market and build barges, transshipment terminals and river stations in Ukraine. ”

The parties paid special attention to cooperation in the railway industry, in particular, the cooperation of Ukrzaliznytsia with Hyundai. Volodymyr Omelyan noted that Hyundai passenger trains show a good work in Ukraine and this is a good basis for further negotiations of Ukrzaliznytsia with Hyundai Company to expand cooperation.

The Minister also invited the Korean side to consider the possibility to locate the capacity of Hyundai in Ukraine: “We consider Hyundai as a potential partner for the production of electric cars in Ukraine. The line of Hyundai electric cars is very interesting and competitive. The electric cars market in Ukraine and in Europe is developing rapidly, so this area of cooperation is extremely promising. ”

Mr. Lee Yang-Goo expressed the intention of Hyundai to take part in the EBRD tender for the construction of the Kharkiv Metro.

He also thanked the Minister for the quality joint work, commended the high dynamics of bilateral relations in the field of transport and infrastructure. Mr. Lee Yang-Goo assured that he will continue to be a friend of Ukraine and will contribute the enhancement of relations between the countries.
