The Ministry of Infrastructure summed up the results of the Twinning project
On June 13, 2019, the Ministry of Infrastructure summed up the results of the Twinning project: "Support of the Ministry of Infrastructure in introducing conditions for the application of the European model of the rail services market in Ukraine".
The event was attended by: Josefina Cortés Martín, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to Ukraine, Marius Janukonis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine, Yevgen Kravtsov, chairman of Ukrzaliznytsya, representatives of the European Union and others.
"Today, together with our European colleagues and partners, we summarize the results of the Twinning project. This project concerned the introduction of a European model on the Ukrainian railways. We are glad that Ukraine and our European partners have a sincere desire to reform Ukrzaliznytsya. We also have the support of the US government, which has provided us with quality specialists. Ukraine is included in the trans-European network TEN-T, which means that the Ukrainian transport network should gradually change its quality, become more convenient and quick", - Volodymyr Omelyan said.
The head of the Ministry stressed that 70% of all freight traffic accounted for Ukrzaliznytsya and the company should make every effort for its development: "Yesterday the government approved the Strategy for the development of Ukrzaliznytsia for 2019-2023 years. We formulated two priorities for the company and they are reflected in the Strategy. The first is infrastructure, the second one is locomotives. Private companies can do everything else, and they are already present on the car market. They are ready to enter the market of freight and passenger transportation and other areas, including concessions of stations".
Volodymyr Omelyan also stressed on the need for the adoption of a revised version of draft law "On the Railway Transport of Ukraine" as soon as possible: "This draft law was developed with the active participation of our European colleagues. We have received a complete consensus on this Law within the framework of the Transport Committee of the Verkhovna Rada. And I hope that this or the new parliament will immediately review those infrastructure laws that have been on the agenda for a long time. They are about 20 ".
