Vladyslav Kryklii, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The meeting took place on November 25, 2019, as part of the working visit of the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine to London (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland), which will last November 25-26, 2019.

Vladyslav Kryklii expressed his gratitude to Mr. Kitack Lim, the IMO Secretary-General, for the continued technical assistance provided to Ukraine by the IMO. The Minister also praised the support of Ukraine to the IMO member countries in matters related to the violation of international maritime law by the Russian Federation.

The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine noted that despite the constant tension created by the Russian Federation in the Black and Azov Seas, the annexation of Crimea and its consequences, Ukraine would fulfill its international obligations in the field of maritime safety and environmental protection, as well as work on implementation mandatory IMO instruments by 2022.

Vladyslav Kryklii also thanked Mr. Kitack Lim for supporting Ukraine's adding in the list of target countries in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between the IMO and the EBRD and invited to hold a meeting between the parties to the Memorandum and representatives of Azerbaijan, Egypt, Georgia, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey in order to review and discuss the implementation of the Memorandum, assess the achievement of its objectives and consider necessary adjustments.

The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine assured the IMO Secretary-General that Ukraine would support in achieving primary IMO's goals and objectives at the current stage, such as reorganization of IMO Council and its expansion up to 52 members, combating climate change, engagement and facilitation of international maritime trade, fighting against piracy and armed robbery against ships.

From our turn, we have endeavored to improve Ukraine's part in implementation of priority tasks of the Organization in accordance with basic IMO instruments both on global and regional levels, Vladyslav Kryklii said: "Thus, during the 15th Black Sea SAR Conference held in Georgia this September, Ukraine put forward an initiative for organizing SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) training courses in the nearest future in Odesa. We are confident that the above-mentioned training would be really useful and effective for the conduct of search and rescue operations in the Black Sea region. That is why we are looking forward to your support of the proposal that IMO would assist in organizing for the Black Sea coastal states a new IMO SMS Model Course 3.14 based on one of the training centers in Odesa".
