We appeal to leasing and insurance companies to limit the use of aircraft by Russia

28 February 2022, 18:54

Currently, the team of the Ministry of Infrastructure is negotiating with international insurance companies in the field of air transportation, as well as companies that supply and lease planes, helicopters, and other aircraft.

If appropriate restrictions and sanctions are imposed, the occupying country will lose about half of its civilian aircraft.

Most airlines in the world, including Russian ones, use the services of large insurance companies. Most of the aircraft are not owned by air carriers but leased.

In particular, according to Cirium, about 55% of the Russian civil aviation fleet is leased from international companies. 515 of the 980 passenger liners used by Russian carriers are leased from foreign owners.

The sanctions imposed just by Ireland can hit the Russian aviation industry. Most of the European airline fleet is registered in the Irish jurisdiction. It is home to 18 of the world's top 20 leasing companies.

We are confident that we will have positive news following the negotiations.

And let us remind you that the occupiers can now fly only from Moscow to Kamchatka.
