Transport infrastructure of Ukraine is interested in attracting Japanese investments, - Viktor Dovhan

A government delegation headed by Stephan Kubiv, the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Viktor Dovhan, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine on European Integration were with a visit to Japan on 21-23 November 2016.

There were held meetings with the Japanese Agency on International Cooperation (JICA), the Japan International Trade Organization (JETRO) and the largest companies included to the Japan Business Federation (KEIDANREN).

Viktor Dovhan discussed projects to attract Japanese investments in transport infrastructure, namely:

  • construction of a bridge over the river Southern Bug in Mykolaiv;
  • development of the Odesa and Mykolaiv port infrastructure (dredging and reconstruction of berths).

More than 30 Japanese corporations, including Marubeni, Sumitomo, Nippon Steel, Itochu and Mitsubishi were attended the Committee for the development of cooperation with Ukraine. The parties agreed to coordinate JICA expert report on the study of the logistics capacity of the transport system in the south of Ukraine, including project loan for the construction of the bridge in Mykolaiv until June 2017, and organization of the participation of Japanese companies in investment projects in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine proposed to consider a draft agreement on air services and opening direct flights between Kyiv and Tokyo in case of increasing of passenger traffic between Japan and Ukraine.
