15 March 2017, 16:25

“The launch of Ryanair creates competition in the airline market,”  Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, stated during the joint press conference which took place in Lviv on March 15, 2017. David O'Brien, Chief Commercial Officer at Ryanair, Andriy Sadovyi, Lviv Mayor, Tetiana Romanovska, General Director of Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport, Iryna Grymak, Deputy Chairman of the Regional State Administration, also attended the event.

"Ryanair embodies my dreams of what the air transportation in Ukraine should be. It must be cheap, comfortable, simple, and such be available in Ukraine. Most importantly, we hereby create competition, which will not allow anyone to dictate specific terms, nor earn supernormal profits. Market will determine everything," Volodymyr Omelyan said. The Minister also praised  the General Director of Lviv Airport for the efforts to attract Ryanair noting the following: "Tetiana Romanovska has done a lot in order to bring Ryanair to Lviv."

David O'Brien, Ryanair’s Chief Commercial Officer, said the following: "Lviv as one of the largest Ukrainian cities has only 19 European flying routes, while Dublin has 150. We offer 7 routes from Lviv, which means 16 flights on a weekly basis. We will increase the passenger turnover from zero to half a million passengers per annum. Next year, we will work on expanding destinations. We also understand that such, southern destinations as Italy and Spain are attractive for Ukrainians. I look forward to positive outcomes of the competition in the nearest future."

Tetiana Romanovska, General Director of  Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport, stressed that that the presence of Ryanair is important to the city: "We are pleased that our airport will host such carrier as Ryanair. We look forward to increasing the passenger turnover, developing the airport infrastructure, and will employ all effort to this end. Ryanair’s low price and high service quality will help us achieve this. Congratulations to Ryanair in Lviv."
