It is necessary to find a compromise between the distribution of transit cargo and satisfaction of domestic exporting companies’ demand. Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine stated the above during the meeting on the transportation of iron ore products to export and transit links which took place on August 2, 2018, at the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Evhen Kravtsov, the head of Ukrzaliznytsia, Dmitry Romensky, the deputy head of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority for the development of port infrastructure, representatives of major consignors, producers of iron ore products attended the meeting.

Participants of the meeting discussed the problematic issues on the ensuring the transportation of iron ore products to export, transit rail links and usage of ports of Ukraine, as well as ways of resolving these issues.

Volodymyr Omelyan appealed to the consignors with a proposal to introduce the planning of export truckloads for three months along with Ukrzaliznytsia and to consider the possibility of reorienting part of the truckloads from Ukrzaliznytsia to the Ukrainian ports.

The consignors noted that the current situation on the market of the iron ore production indicates the need to expand the capacity of western border crossing of Ukraine.

The Minister of Infrastructure stressed on the need of the joint work of Ukrzaliznytsia and representatives of the iron ore industry in this direction: "I can offer the way that has been already used by the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority: if the state invests money in the dredging or other improvements, companies commit themselves to provide the appropriate volume of cargo. If in the next five years companies are ready to provide volumes of cargoes on the western borders, Ukrzaliznytsia through its own funds or funds raised from international financial organizations will increase the capacity of border crossings", - Volodymyr Omelyan stressed.
