24 October 2018, 17:10

The Ministry of Infrastructure will expand rail connection with EU countries. Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure stated the above during the conference "Transport and logistics business experience and cooperation possibilities for Lithuania and Ukraine", which took place on October 24, 2018, at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Marius Janukonis, representatives of the Lithuanian Railway, Ukrzaliznytsya and others also took part in the event.

Volodymyr Omelyan noted that Lithuania is one of the main partners of Ukraine among the countries of the Baltic region: "The positive trade dynamics with the European Union due to the current Free Trade Zone sets the policy goals of ensuring reliable and efficient transit traffic in the direction of the Baltic Sea - the Black Sea. We already have a successful experience of cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania - a container train Viking and a passenger train of four capitals, which unites Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia and Lithuania. And I believe this is just the beginning. The Ministry of Infrastructure will continue to expand rail connection with the EU countries."

The Minister of Infrastructure stressed that in order to increase the volume of freight traffic, it is necessary to combine efforts: "We have to think more widely. Two international transport corridors pass through the territory of Ukraine: pan-European transport corridor and Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor.  We have two cargo trains "Viking" and "Zubr", which pass through the territory of Belarus in the direction of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and further, using the ferry ports of the Baltic Sea to Scandinavia. We have every opportunity to continue the Baltic-Black Sea corridor to the Caspian Sea and further to Asia. ”

In the framework of a conference between PJSC "Ukrzaliznytsya" and JSC "Lithuanian Railway", a Letter of Intent on cooperation in the field of intermodal transportation was signed.
