During the working visit of the Ukrainian delegation headed by First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Dmytro Abramovych to Seoul (Republic of Korea), meetings were held with the authorities of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea, the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea, the Korean Export-Import Bank, the Korean National Railways, Hyundai Corporation and Hyundai Engineering & Construction. The Ukrainian delegation also included Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine Oleksandr Kava and representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia.
The Ukrainian and Korean sides agreed to cooperate in the development of high-speed rail traffic in Ukraine and improvement of passenger transportation by rail. As a result of these meetings, the relevant agreements were signed under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure.
"This year we announced the launch of one of the key projects for the industry to develop high-speed rail in Ukraine. Initially, it will provide for the construction of a railway line with a speed of up to 250 km/h and the modern infrastructure to service InterCity and container traffic to the EU. Now we have official signed agreements with the Korean National Railways, which provide for the possibility of grant funding for pre-feasibility studies for the construction of European rails in Ukraine. I am grateful for the constant support and interest of the Korean side and Hyundai Corporation in the development of the transport sector of Ukraine. We are ready to strengthen our relations. I hope that the future cooperation of our parties will bring the expected and effective results," Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii commented on the expansion of cooperation between the Ukrainian and Korean sides.
During the negotiations in Seoul, First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Dmytro Abramovych said: "The signing of the Memorandum creates conditions for attracting funding from the Korean side to prepare feasibility studies for projects of common interest, including a project to implement high-speed rail in Ukraine."
Dmytro Abramovych presented priority infrastructure projects in the field of transport. In turn, the Korean side expressed interest in expanding cooperation for the joint implementation of new infrastructure projects.
In addition, during a bilateral meeting with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea, the Ukrainian side expressed readiness to conclude an Agreement between the governments of both countries on loans from the Economic Development Cooperation Fund of the Republic of Korea this year. The parties also welcomed the previous agreements on signing a Memorandum on the recognition of diplomas/certificates of seafarers and considered the possibility of concluding it this year.
Priority issues of cooperation within the framework of the Railway Cooperation Organization were also discussed during the meeting. The Korean side invited Ukraine to take part in the 49th session of the Ministerial Meeting of the Organization for Railway Cooperation, which is scheduled for June this year in Seoul.
