On 11 June, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov met with the Head of the European Investment Bank Jean-Erik de Zagon.

During the meeting, they discussed EIB financing of priority projects in the field of infrastructure and the rate of implementation of existing projects, which are implemented jointly with Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukrposhta, Ukravtodor and the cities of Ukraine. Currently, the selection of funds and the rate of implementation of projects are satisfactory only in the road direction.

Sometimes the lack of institutional capacity and work experience with international financial institutions is the main obstacle to implement important and necessary projects.

Last year, Ukravtodor exceeded the planned targets for the implementation of joint projects with international financial organizations. That is the result of our teamwork, and we strive to spread this experience to other industries, " Oleksandr Kubrakov said.

The European Investment Bank cooperates with Ukraine for 30 years. And besides, EIB is a financial partner of a number of key projects, some have already being implemented:

  • Modernization of the Ukrainian railway. Electrification of the railway direction Dolynska – Mykolaiv – Kolosivka;
  • The improvement of transport and operating condition of roads on the approaches to the city of Kyiv;
  • Development of Trans-European Road Network;
  • Modernization of the air navigation system of Ukraine – Phase ІI;
  • Ukraine Transport Connectivity – Phase І;
  • Ukraine Urban Road Safety and development of Ukraine Urban Public Transport.

At the stage of ratification:

  • Ukraine Urban Public Transport II;
  • Logistics Network (Ukrposhta Modernization and Digitalization);
  • Eastern Ukraine: reunification, reconstruction and renewal Project (Project 3B);
  • Reconstruction of flight zone № 2 in Boryspil International Airport.

A number of sectoral meetings are expected in the near future in order to establish more effective cooperation between the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, the central executive bodies and EIB. The aim is to strengthen the control over the terms of the agreement implementation with the European Investment Bank.
