Ukraine has prevented the blockade of Black Sea ports

15 February 2022, 11:45

A corridor has been identified for the safe entry of merchant vessels into Ukrainian ports. Depth is confirmed at the level of 15-22.5 meters.

Special vessels of the State institution "Derzhhidrohrafiia" carried out 450 kilometers of linear survey of the sea floor structure in the Dnister Bank area in record time. Studies have confirmed the safety of navigation in the maritime corridor between the western border of the illegal training area of the Russian Federation and the Dnister Bank.

"Due to the common effort and quick response, we have prevented the blockade of the Black Sea ports of Ukraine. The corridor determined by the research guarantees the ships safe passage across the Odesa Bay.

Over the past 24 hours, we have recorded uninterrupted traffic of merchant ships. Most of the ships followed the recommendations and used the sea corridor bypassing the zone of illegal military exercises of the Russian Federation, " Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov said.

The operative information on the results of hydrographic work of the State institution "Derzhhidrohrafiia" has already been announced in the coastal warnings of Ukraine and will be published in notices for Ukrainian seafarers.

In order to assist the captains to navigate the route of the ship more reliably, taking into account the draft and shunting characteristics, a large-scale update of the navigational charts with detailed information on the state of depths in the sea corridor is being developed. Additionally, the coordinates of the virtual means of navigation equipment for clear delimitation of the sea corridor are also determined.

In order to help the captains to navigate the route of the ship more reliably, taking into account the draft and shunting characteristics, in the near future will be made a large-scale insertion of navigational charts with detailed information on the state of depths in the sea corridor. The coordinates of the virtual means of navigation equipment for clear delimitation of the sea corridor are also determined.

It should be mentioned that in pursuance of the order of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, the State institution "Derzhhidrohrafiia" carried out unscheduled survey works in the Dnister Bank to find the safe passage for ships because of the Russian Federation blockade of the sea routes to Odesa Bay trading ports.

At the time of the study, the Ministry of Infrastructure recommended this route for merchant ships, which allowed Ukrainian ports to operate in regular mode. The Bulker MV Melia was one of the first, but not the last Panamax-type vessel to navigate successfully through the new route from the Pivdennyi port.
