12 September 2022, 19:20
Today, the bulk carrier IKARIA ANGEL, chartered by the UN World Food Program (WFP), arrived at the Chornomorsk Sea Port to load 30,000 tons of wheat.

Once loading, the foodstuffs will be exported to Ethiopia, whose population, according to the UN, is on the verge of a food disaster.

"We understand the global food responsibility of Ukraine to the world, especially to those countries in Africa and Asia that are on the verge of humanitarian disaster.

Since the start of the Initiative, 2 vessels chartered by the World Food Program have already left the ports. On its board are more than 60,000 tons of Ukrainian wheat for the residents of Yemen and Ethiopia. Our WFP partners will purchase another 190,000 metric tons of grain for export to food-insecure countries.

For us, the speed and effectiveness of loading these ships are an absolute priority," Oleksandr Kubrakov, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine said.

In general, during the implementation of the Initiative on the safe transportation of agricultural products, 122 vessels have already left Ukrainian ports. About 2.78 million tons of food are on its board.
