The government allocated UAH 253 million for the construction of a runway in the IA "Odesa", - Volodymyr Omelyan

Today, on July 18, the Government decided to allocate UAH 253 million for the construction of a runway in Odessa Airport, in order to ensure the stable financing of the program "Designing, Reconstruction, and Construction of the municipal enterprise «International Airport «Odesa». Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine informed about it.

"As we promised, the Ministry of Infrastructure initiated the allocation of additional funds for the renovation of the airport in Odessa. This year, in May I inspected the progress of the runway construction and I’m sure that in 2019 a renovated airport will turn Odessa into a south hub. A 30 percent a year dynamics of air passenger growth requires the modernization of airports, and we are working on it”, - Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine noted.

Volodymyr Omelyan thanked to the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Ukraine for the support of the initiative of the Ministry for the Development of Regional Airports.

The construction of the new runway will allow taking heavier types of aircraft, including Boeing-767 and will increase the passenger traffic by half. The bearing capacity of the new runway is almost higher in twice as the current one (the classification number of the covering capacity (PCN) of the new airstrip 64, versus 35 - the existing one). Also, within the framework of the project, it is planned to install light-signal, radionavigation and meteorological equipment for the certificated landing in the category III (ICAO) (the existing runway is certified in category I (ICAO)).
