On July 23, 2018, Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, met with Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, the Minister of Transport and Communications of the State of Qatar during his visit in Ukraine.
Raivis Veckagans, the Acting CEO of the State Enterprise «Ukrainian Seaports Authority» (USPA), Serhiy Korshuk, the Acting Deputy Chairman of the State Aviation Service, Tetiana Romanovska, the Director General of International Airport “Lviv” Aleksandra Klitina, the Head of Reform Support Office under the Ministry of Infrastructure and other representatives of Ukrainian transport community joined the meeting..
The parties discussed perspectives on cooperation in the aviation and port sectors.
"This has been already our third meeting and I am glad that we are heading for discussing concrete infrastructure projects which are to be implemented with Qatar.. I hope that the year of 2019 will be the one of successful implementation of our plans, which will both promote the development of logistics, international transport corridors in Ukraine, reinforce bilateral cooperation at the agro-industrial sector, and strengthen our partnership and friendship with Qatar” emphasized Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, the Minister of Transport and Communications of the State of Qatar noted that the development of cooperation with Ukraine in the port and aviation sectors is very promising for Qatar. He also drew intention to develop the opening of a direct air services between Doha and Lviv on bilateral basis.t.
At the end of the meeting, theMemorandum of Understanding between the USPA and the Qatar ports management company «Mwani Qatar» was signed at the presence of the Ministers of both countries.
The document endorses the cooperation on increasing the volume of cargo between the seaports of Ukraine and Qatar and in particular, on increasing the export of domestically produced agricultural products in Ukraine towards Qatar. In addition, it is planned to attract Qatar investments in the port infrastructure facilities of Ukraine in order to integrate the marine terminals in an international supply chain.
" Signing of the Memorandum proves a strong interest in implementing further infrastructure projects, elaborated with Abdulla Al Khanji the Director General of Qatar ports management company «Mwani Qatar» on the occasion of his visits to the ports "Yuzhnyi" and "Odesa".
