The development of regional airports has been identified as the priority of the Ministry of Infrastructure, - Volodymyr Omelyan
During a working visit to Kyiv oblast, Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine visited the Bila Tserkva Freight Aviation Complex, with the production facilities of the company and held a meeting with the employers. Together with the head of the Ministry, representatives of the Reform Support Office took part in the meeting.
Volodymyr Omelyan emphasized that thanks to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Ukrainians began freely travel to the EU countries: "The visa-free regime made the Ukrainians freely in traveling to Europe. The Ministry of Infrastructure strengthens this opportunity with a transport and infrastructure component. "
Volodymyr Omelyan stated that Ukrainian aviation is showing a dynamic growth for the third year in a row and has good prospects for short-term and long-term planning: "When we spoke three years ago about the necessity to attract low-cost airlines to Ukraine, this idea seemed to be comic: people do not fly, airports are barely dying, no interest from foreign companies. It has been three years. Ukraine in the top 20 countries of the world in the number of new flights. The largest low-cost carriers of Europe are in Ukraine. And I thank to Petro Poroshenko for his support in this matter. More than 10 regional airports have resumed their work. This became possible due to political stability and the joint effective work of all branches of the government. If the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk laid the foundation for changes, then the government of Volodymyr Groysman will implement these changes. "
Volodymyr Omelyan emphasized that rapid growth is demonstrated not only by a passenger but also by cargo air transportation.
"Ukraine has all chances to become a regional leader and a logistics hub in Europe. The development of a military aviation has good prospects, it is a potentially attractive project for investors. The development of international multimodal transport hub based on the Bila Tserkva Airport is one of our priorities in this direction," - the head of the Ministry said.
Volodymyr Omelyan also stated that, in accordance with the National Transport Strategy of Ukraine until 2030, all necessary conditions for the development of the airports and bringing the airport infrastructure in line with IКАО standards and recommended practices are created.
"The development of the regional airport "Bila Tserkva" and the creation of a multi-modal cargo complex on its base have been identified as a priority project. In 2018, 73 aviation operations were carried out, a record for the last 18 years of the company's operations. In the long run, after the opening of the international border crossing point at the Bila Tserkva airfield, a gradual increase in the number of aviation operations is expected to 300 per year",- Volodymyr Omelyan said.
The Minister of Infrastructure said that within the framework of the EU Technical Assistance Program (AASSIST) a pre-feasibility study on the creation of a multimodal freight complex has been prepared.
Volodymyr Omelyan also noted that in order to increase the investment attractiveness of the airport and its competitive in the field of repair and aviation cargo transportation, measures are being taken to open an international checkpoint: "This will allow to carry out direct flights from/to other countries from the airport "Bila Tserkva", will significantly increase the number of aircraft requiring repair or maintenance. The opening of an international checkpoint is scheduled to be paved in the fall of 2019. "
