The government has tightened "air sanctions" against Belarusian airlines

From May 29, 2021 Ukraine will ban Belarus-registered planes from using airspace of Ukraine.

Restrictions on flights in Belarusian airspace and transit flights for Belarusian companies are necessary steps to ensure the safety of aviation and passengers.

Currently, the team of the Ministry of Infrastructure together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working out operational solutions in order to attract new transit air routes to Ukraine. We count on the support of our international partners, " Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov said.

It should be reminded that on May 25, the Government imposed a ban on direct flights to the Republic of Belarus by Ukrainian and Belarusian operators.

Precondition: the events surrounding the Ryanair passenger plane, which made a forced landing at Minsk airport on May 23. After that the Belarusian journalist Roman Protasevych was detained.

Execution of the protocol is entrusted to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine and the Ukrainian State Air Traffic Services Enterprise “UkSATSE.” The State Aviation Administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shall, in accordance with the established procedure, ensure appropriate measures and inform the relevant bodies of the Republic of Belarus about this prohibition.

International partners: on May 24, EU leaders called on European airlines to avoid flights over Belarus territory and to impose additional sanctions on the Republic of Belarus “as soon as possible.” The decision has not yet entered into force. It has to be agreed and approved by the EU Council of Ministers.
